Dos and Donts while in Netherlands

Dressing up nowadays is not just to express how you show your style and yourself, yet it kind of takes part of your lifestyle. Your routine, your occupation, your hobbies and your city/country, unconsciously, influence the way you dress as well. Netherlands is pretty much a practical country though. The weather and the common Dutch lifestyle won’t let you own the degree of freedom for dressing up as you may wish. Here is my own version of dos and donts while getting yourself clothed and a little bit of friendly fashion tips in Netherlands that you might want to know.

Dos:

1. Pick comfy shoes Obviously, Netherlands is where you push the pedal and ride on anytime you need and/or you walk on. So, it’s self-mandatory to pick the right shoes very well. Once a saying goes like this "Give a woman the right shoes and she will conquer the world". With the trend of wearing classy and coats with sneakers altogether, I guess that would not be a problem for fashion addicts. 2. Grab thick layers of coats and jackets Whether you travel, go out, or move outside your house, it is super cool to take an extra layer of clothing with you. Weather and temperature are a rapid change here. You may go out in a complete sunny day and by the time you return home the sun suddenly hides behind the corner, the temperature drops and the worst case, it may rain for the rest of the day. You definitely don’t wish that coming. 3. Work it on one good hairstyle

By hairstyle I mean, not just straightening your hair and getting it loose. No. Just No. Netherlands is breezy (no doubt there are a lot of windmills here). Leaving your hair down does not only make you comfy, but it will also get your hair stuck on your face, or in a worse scenario, on your lipstick. Besides, braiding your hair is still in and purely stylish.

4. Umbrella surely helps on accessorizing

I would advise investing in a good, large and strong one. Remember also to pick your color and the model that suit your style.
5. Add some colors to your wardrobe

Cut out wearing all black when the weather gets gloomy. Unless, you want to look just dark. Make sure you add on some colors once in a while, or work your dark outfit with a bright lipstick or dazzling accessories. Just no NEONS! Girl, neons are soo over. Instead, pastel colors are warm and always fit in. 6. Wear elastic and cotton clothes

While getting yourself in trend and stylish is a must and surely makes you stand out of the crowd, comfort is luxury on its own.

7. Waterproof outfits

Whether it is your coat, hat, shoes or make up. If you want to keep yourself warm, protected, dry and looking good at the same time, make this a filter while choosing your stuff next time. They say that a leather jacket changes your life. Well, maybe that sounds a bit overrated, but nothing screams sexier than leather.

Don'ts:

1. High heels
Once more, no high heels. High heels are generally torturous for women, but in Netherlands they become hell on earth. You will probably cycle, or walk a lot and it’s just usual. But the old dutch roads with the old bricks or the steep, narrow and wooden (usually) stairs of dutch buildings won't give you the pleasure of wearing high heels in your daily life. and yes, you'll end up pulling a muscle, hurting your legs or walking ridiculously. Unless really necessary, don't wear them! 2. Pencil skirts Unless they are your style (like mine) and you have the mobility of using public transport, don't wear them. They will ruin your day and cycling while in them is just nearly impossible. The longer the worse.

3. Very loose dresses and skirts

Instead of looking like Marilyn Monroe's famous pose, you will end up looking absurd trying to keep yourself covered. Breezy weather is absolutely not for very loose clothes.
4. Don't go too wild on accessories or colors

Putting too much or too fancy , shiny ones will make you stand out for worse. Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, said Da Vinci.

Until your next shopping spree and our next article, have a nice time and stay tuned!
